Critical Reflection

 1. Module Learning

Firstly, this module has taught me the importance of having proper written and oral skills such as report writing and presentation skills. At the start of the module, I aim to understand and write different types of reports and letter writing which I finally can achieve. The module has shown many different types of reports and letter writing which will be beneficial for my future. This skill will allow and help me in my working life too.

Other than that, my communication skills have improved as I am not afraid to ask questions when in doubt and the group projects has allowed me to speak up and interact with one another despite most of the lessons held online. As many reports and research need to be done throughout the module, critical thinking skills are crucial as it helps the process of what needs to be done for each point an example will be the problem statement and proposed statement. I managed to understand the topic better with the help of the process of critical thinking. Critical thinking consists of many aspects which help to identify and think of a proper solution rather than just list all the points. Therefore, the step by step process of doing a report has allowed me to understand each point clearly. The resources given were beneficial.

The projects and reports given to me have allowed me to apply all the skills such as the format, language used, grammatical errors, paraphrasing and citation. I managed to apply the skills taught to other modules like the Measurement and Sensor Technology module. Other module projects have allowed me to input necessary skills. I can better improve by paying attention to details in reports and practising more on upcoming projects. 

2. Project Learning

As this module has report writing and presentation, I could have done better as a few mistakes were being made. Firstly for report writing, I have a little knowledge and understanding of writing reports due to my years in Polytechnic writing reports. I can do the format but is still unsure in terms of paraphrasing and language. My team and I faced issues in paraphrasing therefore I learnt that my team and I should read and observe the changes needed in a sentence carefully before typing the entire sentence. I learnt that small details in report writing matter such as the indentation and the format therefore from the past projects, I have tried to take note of important details and the usage of words.

Moving on to the oral presentation, I was nervous even though it was an online presentations but there are many factors involved while presenting. My team and I practised many times as we realized that we needed to give a good flow and a good presentation to the audience listening. I learnt to be more observant and focused while presenting as I needed to explain important points. I did not realize that I was not showing hand gestures and found myself stiff while presenting. Another factor was trying to remain calm if any connectivity issue happens during the presentation. I learnt that internet connections can happen anytime and if any case, I have to remain calm and think of what I should be doing next. Lastly, I was not able to show my hand gestures which I tried showing but it was due to my laptop angle. So, I should learn to check the position of my camera and do better in future report writing and presentations.
