Dear Mdm Fazilah

Subject: Self-Introduction

I am Ruhimayaty from Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering Building Services and I am writing to you regarding module expectations. I would like to give a brief introduction to my educational background. I went to ITE pursuing Facility Systems Design and decided to pursue Diploma in Civil Engineering with Business at Singapore Polytechnic. Since young, I was always interested in building structures and Mathematics. As I learned more about the Construction Industry, I have found an interest in doing Green Building which I would like to pursue and concentrate on my current degree. Overall, this is a brief explanation of me.

Gaining experience in internship and part-time jobs has allowed me to gain new skills. One communication strength that I have is listening where I listened to customers attentively and answering their queries. Handling customers may not be easy but if I remain calm and be attentive, I will be providing good customer service. My weakness is not knowing how to express my opinions clearly as I have difficulties experiencing my thought process and opinions at times. For instance, in a group project, I would hear people opinions and agree to their opinions but at times I do not share my opinions unless needed. Over the years, I have improved in voicing out my opinions more which helps in group projects.

For this module, my goals are to understand the proper ways in writing different types of letters or reports which will help me throughout my years in SIT and will benefit me in the future such as writing a formal email to the managers.

In conclusion, I would like to give my best ability and be attentive in this module to make sure that I will be able to excel and gain better knowledge from this module.

 Yours sincerely

Ruhimayaty (Ms)

  1. Hello Ruhimayaty! The formal letter you've written has responded well with the requirement of the assignment. The points that you have mentioned on the strength and weaknesses are well explained accompanied by examples that allowed me to relate to it easily. Generally, it is organized and well written.

Glad to see the goal you set for yourself for the module. However, you could identify another goal which you hope to achieve from the module as the assignment requires two specific goals. Looking forward to your future blogs!

  3. Hi Ruhi! Here are some of the points I like about your letter:
    - letter is short and concise which gives reader a good experience reading it.
    - first paragraph has clearly stated the letter's purpose
    - tone sounds slightly cheerful but formal
    - Experiences are clubbed into few short sentences
    - thoughts are well organized in a logical sequence.

Great to see you had set yourself a goal that not only applies during your studies but also helps you to be prepared for the future workplace in the building industry. By the way, you could state another goal which you hope to gain from this module which may help you to better align your focus and promote a sense of self-mastery. I hope to have a great learning journey with you in the coming years in this institute. More blogs needed hahah.

  4. Thank you for your letter.

Being able to listen actively is a special skill as most people have short attention spans. It also takes hard work to be an active listener. So, it is great that this is a strength of yours.

Being a good writer takes sustained effort. I hope you will not give up in your effort to achieve your goal.

I wish you all the best in your studies at SIT and I look forward to your participation in class.
